NORWALK -- Saying he's "not quite ready to ride off into the sunset yet," Republican Mayor Richard A. Moccia announced his bid for a fifth term before cheering supporters at The Norwalk Inn & Conference Center on Tuesday night.
Ten minutes into his announcement, Moccia stepped away from his podium and made his case forcefully for another term as mayor of Norwalk.
"I am out there every day with the people and I know what a great city we have," Moccia said. "I've had the honor of leading this city for seven years and I am asking the people of this city to give me one more term. And I promise as I did in my first term: I may not be able to do everything I want to do, but I want to do everything I can do."
Referencing recent Democratic attacks, Moccia described his most recent year in office as "a tough road to hoe" and said he thought about saying, "maybe it's time not to seek re-election."
"And then I thought, no one goes through life, especially an elected official, unscathed," Moccia said. "I choose to stand and fight. I will seek re-election."
Under the slogan "Promises Made. Promises Delivered," Moccia launched his re-election bid.
